Reason v. Response

I went into the salon the other day for a loooong overdue haircut. My stylist and I started chatting and somehow the topic turned to scrapbooking...how does that happen to me ALL THE TIME? hee hee Anywho.

She is not a scrapbooker and started telling me all the reasons why she doesn't scrapbook and I shared with her all the reasons I do. I'm sure many of you have had the same conversations time and time again. I'm not looking to convert a bunch of people to scrapbooking (although, wouldn't that be fun!), I just want to take the intimidation factor out of the hobby. I have discovered such joy in this craft and I want to share that with others, don't you?

I would love to hear your responses to the reasons people give for not wanting to scrapbook.

For example, a big one I hear all the time is...
Reason: "I could never create pages like I see in magazines."
Response: "They don't have to be amazing works of art. Slap down two pictures on a piece of paper and WHAM!, you've scrapbooked. And, the bonus...you saved 2 pictures from the bottom of a shoebox."
Will you share your reasons/responses in this post? Some of the other common themes are no time, too messy, etc. Maybe we can come up with a clever way to get people over the intimidation of scrapbooking. :-)

  1. I love this layout, Carrie!!!! The biggest reason I hear people say is, I don't have the time! I always respond with, we make time for things we enjoy! :)

  2. Cute layout, Carrie.

The biggest reason I always hear is "TIME". People always ask me how I find the time to scrapbook. I just tell them it is one of my priorities and so I make time for it (not easy with 5 kids--but that also means I have TONS to document and remember).

Another reason is people don't know how to start. It can be overwhelming with all of the product available. I usually suggest to them to start with a kit or coordinating line of paper. That way some of the guess work is taken out of knowing what to use. And I mention they don't have to start from the beginning--just start with some pictures that make you smile.

Sorry that was probably too long of an answer :) Thanks!

  3. Great, Mel! And you are a great example that time really isn't an issue...if you can do it, anyone can!
