Scrappy Flakes

In the anticipation of Christmas and New Years, it's fun to get crafty with the kiddos.

My twins came home from school today showing me paper snowflakes they had made...I forgot about making those when I was a kid!  I remember sitting in my room for hours cutting out snowflakes and trying to create the "perfect one".   This is a great craft to do with little ones (probably ages 4+...make sure they know how to respect the scissors!)

Here is a little tutorial from my 6 year old on how to make a very simple paper snowflake:
Step 1.  Fold a square paper in half:

Step 2. Cut triangles, squares, and any shapes into the edges of the paper.

Step 3. Open snowflake and flatten out the creases.

Every snowflake is perfect in its own unique way!  This is a great way to use up some of your old paper stash and create some very "scrappy flakes".  You could even decorate your snowflakes with glitter, bling, stickers, and flowers!  I'm sure if you Google "paper snowflakes" you could find all kinds of tutorials and ideas to create some special flakes.

Do you have any crafty traditions you would like to share?
